Foundries seeing slower growth in wafer starts for 3Q11, say sources

Contract chipmakers Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and United Microelectronics Corporation (UMC) have seen their clients cut back on wafer starts for the third quarter of 2011, due to weaker-than-expected demand for handsets and tablet PCs, according to industry sources.
